The Timber Guru
Frank Hellyer joined Covers Timber and Builders Merchants in 1942 at 14 years of age. By the age of 17 he had achieved the position of yard foreman and was responsible for twenty or so land army girls working in the business as a result of the men being called up for military service. Frank has been instrumental in developing and influencing the business having become a well respected personality within the industry. In 1963 Frank was responsible for the development of Covers’ new site at Quarry Lane, Chichester where he commissioned the first of the German high speed moulding machines. Frank has visited sawmills and timber mills the world over to broaden his experience. On February 15th 2007,
Frank celebrated 65 years of continuous service at Covers having rejected the idea of retirement.
